competition Rules

The following terms and conditions governs all performance and usage of the Dig The Gig Competitions platform. In addition to these terms, the venue of the live gig will have their own set of rules and restrictions as per their liquor license and regulations as a liquor license operator serving food and beverage.

THE RULES

  1. DIG THE GIG COMPETITION to be referred herein as The Competition. The Competition is specifically for bands where one or more members is currently a student at Cantebury, Massey, Victoria or Otago Universities.

  2. A MEMBER is a person who is part of a band with it's own identity. The bands identity must not infringe the copyright of other entities within the music industry.

  3. ENTRIES are accepted online only. You will need to register on the open registration form, verification of your identity and the band will happen manually after registration is completed. This is a very easy process and takes a couple of minutes but will require a current University Student ID card. Bands can only enter once under one name.

  4. RIGHTS: Bands retain all rights and ownership to their original music once entered to The Competition. The Competition will hold no rights or ownership to original music performed.

  5. REGISTRATIONS: The quality of Bands Registering can range from rough newly formed bands through to professionally seasoned live music bands and everything in between. Our teams welcome all levels of band experience and genre. As we know, sometimes there is a spark of magic that can be seen with a newly formed band, so don't be shy as we would love to showcase that too.

  6. CATEGORIES: All entries must perform an original song and one cover song per Gig. Should your band make it through it's heat to the next round we recommend performing a different original work and different cover for the next gig. Not essential but advised to help you wow the crowd and advance further in the Competition. All entries will perform live.

  7. ORIGINAL WORKS: By performing original music in The Competition, you agree that you either have sole ownership of your music or you are permitted to enter your original music to The Competition on behalf of co-writers. Please ensure you have the rights to perform your music as to avoid any disqualifications or injunctions during the Competition. Please have a document ready to prove you have the rights to perform your original music should it be challenged and should the organisers require it.

  8. MEMBER INFORMATION: The information you provide upon registering for The Competition must be true and correct or your registration can be terminated immediately.

  9. ENTRY FEES: As this is our inaugural competition (our debut Gig!) the pricing of entries for the competition is FREE.

  10. AGE RESTRICTIONS: The Competition itself does not have an age restriction, however at least one Member of the band will need to be a current University student and the venue where the Gigs will be performed live will also have their own age restrictions in accordance with their liquor licensing agreements.

  11. JUDGING PROCESS: All registered bands agree that all decisions on successful competition winners are to be decided solely by the crowd (audience) on the night measured by a decibel meter, and that all decisions on the night are final.

  12. PRIVACY AND INDEMNITY: Registered bands agree that all musical works will be recorded on the night and any distribution of the recordings will require permission from the organisation by the band. Should a band agree to the distribution or broadcast of an original music performance, the band indemnify Dig The Gig, its sponsors, staff, judges, and partners from any damages, losses or claims for injury or loss to its person or related persons or property partly, indirectly or directly from its involvement in The Competition.

  13. ANNOUNCEMENT DATES: Announcement dates will be posted on the competition website as we organise the registered bands into categories.

  14. WINNERS: Winners will be contacted by the Competition organisers via phone and email.

  15. PROMOTION: By entering The Competition, you agree for The Competition to use your name, face, band artwork and likeness across all forms of media into the future for The Competition advertising, publicity and promotions without further monetary or in-kind payment to the member.

  16. PRIZES: The Platform endeavours to deliver prizes to winners in a timely fashion. Prizes cannot be transferred to a third party. If a prize becomes unavailable The Competition may require to pay the winner the wholesale cash value of that prize via EFT, or an alternative prize may be gifted at a higher or lesser dollar value to that of the original prize. Registered bands indemnify The Competition, its partners and sponsors from losses or liabilities relating to all prizes won. Prizes which are being distributed by sponsors may take longer to get to members than if they are being distributed from The Competition Head Office. If a member has not received their prize within 90 days they can notify The Competition of any issues by using our contact page and a Dig The Gig team member will rectify the situation as best possible. If a member fails to notify The Competition organisers of a non-delivered prize within this time frame The Competition cannot take any further responsibility for that prize.

  17. WINNING ENTRIES: Members agree that all winning songs (audio) will be published publicly to The Competition community on announcement. If you do not want your song released publicly you have the option to notify the organisers and let them know you wish to keep the song private.

  18. FINAL ACCEPTANCE OF TERMS AND CONDITIONS: All bands and their associate partners, their parents or legal guardians (if under 18), agree to be legally bound by the above terms and conditions. By entering a band to The Competition, all members accept and confirm that the above information has been understood by all parties before proceeding.
