Congratulations One Day!

DIG THE GIG OU finals night was absolutely off the charts! A conglomeration of the finest talent that Dunedin has to offer, banger after banger, and many originals that deserved a shot at being recorded for the DIG THE GIG studio award.

Opening the night was DTG house artist, Becca Caffyn, and her full band - a Dunedin supergroup made up of IVY, Emily Alice, The Beatniks, and Ani Saafa members. Becca Caffyn proved why she was worthy of fronting a band of this calibre, and left the audience in a trance with her incredible music and vocal delivery. Incredible.

The finals kicked off. Monkey Do brought a fresh breath of Britpop charm. The Daze brought bangers and an amazing crowd to match. FÜBAR! brought grungy intensity, and Caribou brought an electric and charismatic stage show filled with intense energy. Pages Layn brought maestro riffs and silky smooth vocals, and close runners up Purple Dog once again proved to us why they are one of Dunedin's favourite bands.

But there could be only one winner... and that was the magnificent, the brilliant, the high-octane, "ONE DAY". A band of incredible musicians, with utterly A-class originals. Their song "Paper Doll" would compete comfortably on a radio station such as Hauraki or The Rock. Congratulations One Day. It is obvious that you will go far in your career as a band; that this is only just the beginning of an incredible journey for you.

To all of our brilliant DIG THE GIG sponsors, thank you for helping us get this competition over the line. To those of you who came out night after night to support your favourite bands, and continued to bring an unmatchable energy, thank you.

To the DTG OU artists who gave their all and then some, we applaud you. To our host Jesse, and our photographer Seren, you are wonderful and helped create such a special month of competition. This was a seriously special sophomore year for DIG THE GIG OU... and it will only get even better from here.
